Spamalot is a musical comedy based on the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, following King Arthur’s quest to find the titular Holy Grail. It features a score by John Du Prez and Eric Idle, with lyrics and a book by Idle. The show opened on Broadway in 2005 after an out-of-town tryout and won three Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The Broadway production was preceded by one in the West End, several North American and United Kingdom tours, and a Broadway revival that opened in November 2023.

History with the Macy's Parade[]

The original Broadway cast of Spamalot performed in the first hour of NBC’s coverage of the 2006 Parade as one of four Broadway shows. Set in a dark and very expensive forest, King Arthur mopes, unable to find a shrubbery at the request of the terrifying Knights Who Say Ni. His servant, Patsy, encourages Arthur to “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” in a musical number complete with the Knights of the Round Table and the Laker Girls.

Spamalot performed for a second time in 2023, now featuring its Broadway revival cast. The performance began with King Arthur entering Camelot, seeking noblemen to become Knights of the Round Table (“Laker Girls Cheer”). The newly-knighted Knights of the Round Table join together to perform a Vegas-style dance number that includes tap dancing, the Lady of the Lake scat singing (“Knights of the Round Table”), and a kickline (“Always Look on the Bright Side of Life”).
