Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is a musical based on the Spider-Man character and franchise. The show has music and lyrics by Bono and the Edge with a book by Julie Taymor, Roberto Aguirre-Sacassa and Glen Berger. The show incorporates the story of the Greek myth, Arachne, into a plot loosely based on the 2002 Spider-Man film. The Broadway production opened in June 2011, after months of delays.

The show was infamous for its many flaws and production errors before and during previews. Many actors were hurt as a result of the highly technical stunts, with the opening night being delayed several times over seven months. The Broadway production ran at the Foxwoods Theatre between June 2011 and January 2014.

History with the Macy's Parade[]

Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark made its Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade debut in 2011, performing an array of songs for the show written by singer-songwriters Bono and the Edge. The performance commenced with a rendition of "Bouncing Off the Walls," in which the lead character, Peter Parker (Reeve Carney), discovers his spider-like abilities that would transform him into the heroic Spider-Man. The show's ensemble then performed the Spider-Man theme, which was followed up by the Green Goblin (Patrick Page) performing "A Freak Like Me Needs Company," joined by fellow villains Kraven the Hunter and Carnage. The number ends with Spider-Man saving the citizen of New York from the clutches of evil.
