The Starfish are star-shaped novelty balloons in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

History with the Macy's Parade[]

The trio of starfish novelty balloons debuted alongside the Baby Shamu balloon in 1986 along with the SeaWorld float. These balloons only made one appearance and were subsequently retired after the 1986 Macy’s Parade. According to the 1988 inflation map, they were originally supposed to return in the 1988 Parade, but was replaced by the Ice Stars.

Defects[]

  • In 1986, the bottom of one of the starfish was deflated, due to it losing helium.

Trivia[]

  • The trio of starfish are one of three star balloon trios in the Parade's history, with the other two being the Ice Stars and the Opening Macy's Stars.
  • The Starfish were the only star-shaped balloons to receive a scale model version of themselves.
  • The Starfish balloons were the first novelty balloons to not be sponsored by Macy's since they were being sponsored by SeaWorld.
