The Starfish are novelty balloons from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

History with the Macy's Parade

The trio of starfish novelty balloons debuted alongside the Baby Shamu balloon in 1986, alongside the SeaWorld float. These balloons would only make one appearance and were subsequently retired after the 1986 Parade. According to the 1988 inflation map, they were originally going to return in the 1988 Parade but was replaced by the Snowstars.

  • In 1986, the bottom of one of the starfish was deflated, due to it losing helium.

  • The trio of starfish are one of three star balloon trios in the Parade's history, with the other two being the Snowstars and the Opening Macy's Stars.
  • The Starfish were the only star-shaped balloons to receive a scale model version of themselves.
