Strawberry Shortcake is a cartoon character used in greeting cards published by American Greetings. It later became a beloved franchise that was expanded to include dolls, posters, and other products featuring the character, as well as an extended cast of friends and pets. In addition, the franchise has spawned television specials, animated television series, and films. The franchise is currently owned by the Canadian children's television company WildBrain through the holding company Shortcake IP Holdings LLC.

History with the Macy's Parade[]

The Strawberry Shortcake franchise entered the Parade with a float in the 1981 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The float included a Giant Strawberry house with some whipped cream at the back, a bridge and a sun that can move or wiggle during the parade route, and walk-around characters of Shortcake's friends are also featured on the float. During the 1984 Parade, the walk arounds for Strawberry Shortcake (and some of her friends) didn't appear and instead there were non-costumed versions of them. The float was retired after the 1984 procession and was later recycled into the Fruit Juice Valley float for the 1987 Parade.
