The 65th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was held on November 28, 1991 in New York City, and shown to viewers live on NBC that same day from 9 a.m. to noon EST. It was hosted by Willard Scott and Katie Couric. Participating celebrities included Kelsey Grammer, Boys II Men, The Lawrence Brothers, Kathleen Battle, Raven-Symoné, and Jennifer Holiday.
Overview[]
Macy's pulled off yet another successful parade in 1991, making sure it was their most exciting yet! Babar the Elephant was brought to life in a larger-than-life balloon unit, making his first appearance in the Parade in over fifty years. In addition, Macy's brought back the Happy Dragon, Raggedy Ann, Betty Boop, and Linus the Lionhearted, all of which had not been seen in years. Wind provided a challenge to the balloon handlers, but only Kermit the Frog and the aforementioned Betty Boop were wounded.
On the performer side of things, celebrities such as Ben Vereen, Kelsey Grammer, and Miss America 1992 victor Carolyn Sapp were brought in to celebrate the 65th occurrence of the Parade. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were invited to the Parade for the second time, and characters such as Snuggle Bear, Bart Simpson, Woody Woodpecker and Spider-Man joined their balloon counterparts in the march down Broadway. Once again, Santa Claus arrived to bring the start of the holiday season.
