The 68th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was held on November 24, 1994, in New York City and shown to viewers live on NBC that same day from 9 a.m. to noon EST. The broadcast was hosted by Willard Scott and Katie Couric. The lineup featured 16 giant helium balloons, 21 novelty balloons, 19 floats, 13 marching bands, a host of musical stars, and the one-and-only Santa Claus.

  • Barney's left leg was punctured by trees along Central Park West.
  • The Cat in the Hat had his right hand deflated by a lamppost.

  • Don Pardo became the NBC broadcast's announcer for the 1994 Parade, replacing Lynda Lopez.
  • The first televised Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held at the start of the 1994 telecast, though it was not immediately followed by the opening credits as it would be in the coming years. Celebrities interviewed in the official broadcast's first hour included Bob and Dolores Hope, Tom Bosley (Beauty and the Beast), Rosie O'Donnell (Grease), Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and his family (then-wife Donna Hanover, son Andrew, and daughter Caroline), and Richard Simmons.
  • The 1994 Parade telecast was nominated for the Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Directing - Special Class (losing to A Promise Kept: The Oksana Baiul Story) and Outstanding Special Class Program (losing to Talk Soup).[1]
