The 98th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was held on November 28, 2024, in New York City and was shown to viewers live on NBC and Peacock that same day from 8:30 a.m. to noon EST. It was hosted by Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Al Roker. The lineup featured 17 giant helium balloons, 15 heritage and novelty balloons, 27 floats, more than 700 clowns, 11 marching bands, 10 performance groups, a host of musical stars, and the one-and-only Santa Claus.
Listed below are the parade elements that appeared in the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. They are categorized by unit type, with their respective sponsors in bold. Home locations of talent ensembles are featured in brackets, and guest star’s float appearances are indicated in bold.
Bold denotes a new parade element, an underline indicates a unit that was brought back after an absence, a strikethrough signifies a parade unit that was sidelined before or during the march, and an asterisk (*) indicates an element that was retired after the 2024 Parade.
The NBC broadcast of the 2024 Parade achieved the highest number of viewers in the NBC broadcast's history for the second year in a row, attracting 31.1 million viewers (including streams on Peacock)—a 10% increase from the previous year.[4]
Silent House Productions took over as the telecast's producer, replacing Brad Lachman Productions. As part of its efforts to “bring a fresh vision” to the broadcast, new prominently-featured cameras were placed at Columbus Circle and Radio City Music Hall.[5]
Initially, The 369th Experience (a marching band from Harlem, New York) was invited to perform in the 2024 Parade,[6] though they were ultimately dropped from the line of march. The Caporales San Simón Virginia USA performance group was also planned to appear.[7]
Macy's hosted a Celebrity Viewing Area in the 34th Street grandstands and a VIP Hospitality Suite inside Macy's Herald Square; notable names in attendance included Jim Click, Frances Berwick, Maura Tierney, Amber Ruffin, Joey Graziadei and Kelsey Anderson, Paula Pell, Avery Wilson, Skylar Astin, Jessica Chastain, Tayisha Adams, Chet Roberts, Sherri Shepherd, Brit Whitfield, Corey B and Alicia Aucoin, Rocky Barnes, Nicholas Sparks, James Austin Johnson and Rebekah Lain, Laila Lockhart Kraner, Jason Bynum, VicBlends, Luke Gulbranson, Lil Mo Mozzarella, Claudia Oshry, Ben Soffer and Flavor Flav.
For the first time in Parade history, the branding for the NBC telecast was the same as that used for the Parade.
2024 was the first time since 2019 that a giant balloon has removed from the lineup.
Six new giant character balloons were introduced in the 2024 Parade, tying it with 2014's record of most giant balloons to debut in one year.
