The Alvin Ailey School is a dance school located founded by dance Alvin Ailey in 1969. The Alvin Ailey School draws students from all corners of the world to train and perfect their craft of in the Ailey style of dance which incorporates multiple techniques including ballet, Horton, Graham-based modern, jazz, West African, Dunham technique and hip hop.

History with the Macy's Parade[]

The Alvin Ailey School was first embraced Broadway with their fine-tuned talents in the 2008 Macy's Parade, in preparation for the school's 50th anniversary. The students ranging in age from 9 to 23 wore and represented costumes and characters reminiscent of the outdoor baptisms from the 1930s, while performing a moving piece entitled "Wade in the Water".

The Ailey School, then celebrating its 60th anniversary, was selected to perform in the 2019 Macy's Parade. Over 100 students from all programs of The Ailey School answered the call of "Let's Have a Parade." Led by The Ailey School Co-Director Tracy Inman, the dancers from age seven to 25 performed a dance inspired by the "Rocka My Soul" finale of Alvin Ailey's American masterpiece, Revelations.
