The Cheetah is a Macy's original character who appeared in the form of a giant helium balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

History with the Macy's Parade

In 1931, Macy's and Goodyear would make a cheetah balloon to debut that same year, it's generic design was just a cheetah in a Tony Sarg kind of design, the balloon would ultimately be released at the end of the parade, due to the balloon release event that year. However, despite this it was brought back the following year in 1933, after that he would be retired and it's now yet to introduce a recreation or a cheetah licensed character in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

  • In 1931, The Cheetah's front left paw was deflated.
  • In 1932, The Cheetah hooked onto an airplane when the pilot of the airplane was attempting to catch it, sending the plane into a tailspin. Due to this accident, Macy's stopped releasing the balloons at the end of the parade.
