The Monkey on the High Trapeze is a Macy's original character that appeared in the form of a giant helium balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

History with the Macy's Parade

The Monkey on the High Trapeze first swung into action in the 1948 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, alongside a 75-foot long Crocodile balloon. The balloon was recycled from 1945's Young Man on the Flying Trapeze balloon and featured a dapper monkey doing what he does best -- monkeying around -- as he glides elegantly off a multi-colored balloon. The balloon was retired after its inaugural appearance and hasn't been seen in the Parade since.

  • During the balloon's appearance, the multi-colored balloon was a little deflated.
