The Smothers Brothers were a duo of American folk singers, musicians, and comedians consisting of siblings Tom Smothers (February 2nd, 1937 – December 26th, 2023) and Dick Smothers (born November 20th, 1938). The brothers' musical comedy act involved performing folk songs (Tommy on acoustic guitar and Dick on double bass), which usually led to arguments between the two of them. Some notable trademarks of their routine featured Tommy's signature line, "Mom always liked you best!" and Tommy (the elder of the two) acted "slow" while Dick, the straight man, acted "superior". Throughout the late 1950's and early 1960's, the brothers frequently appeared on television variety shows such as The Andy Williams Show, The Ed Sullivan Show, The Sonny and Cher Show, The Steve Allen Show, and Hootenany and they also issued several popular record albums of their stage performances. Their own television variety show, The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, became one of the most controversial American TV programs of the Vietnam War era.

History with the Macy's Parade[]
