History with the Macy's Parade
The Turk made his debut in the 1929 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The balloon lasted longer than many of his contemporaries, appearing until 1932, making three Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade appearances in total. Like many other balloons from this time period, he was recycled into parts of 650 pounds of rubber donated to the U.S. Military for war purposes in WWII. He is unlikely to ever return as a balloon due to his lack of popularity.
Incidents
- In November 26, 1931, the balloon was pushed into an electrical sign at 72nd Street and split in half shortly afterwards.
