Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Wiki

The Tropical Fruit Clowns are a clown unit from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

History with the Macy's Parade[]

The Tropical Fruit Clowns made their first appearance in the 1993 Parade, then known as simple the Banana Clowns. The high-fructose funny folk featured a-peel-ing bananas splitting the sides of spectators. The following year, ten parading Pineapples joined the unit.

In 1996, the Tropical Fruit Clowns would gain their final title with the addition of a Carmen Miranda clown captain, while the Bananas made like themselves and split into the Banana Spit Clowns. Further additions in 2003 included Strawberries, Lemons, Limes, and Grapes, all of which were recycled from the Jell-O float escort costumes. The clown unit was retired after the 2004 Parade, and the Carmen Miranda costume would later be used for the Bananas & Palm Tree Clowns in 2011.
