The West Johnston High School Marching Band is the official marching band of the school under the same name in Benson, North Carolina. They have performed in many local, regional and national events including the Bands of America Grand Nationals many times. The band was chosen to represent the state by marching in George W. Bush's Inauguration Day Parade. In 2008, the band marched in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade where they became the first marching band in the parade's history to use props for their Herald Square performance.

History with the Macy's Parade[]

The band traveled to NYC in November to perform in the 82nd Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, where they performed their show "Boogie Winter Wonderland" to the music of Earth, Wind, & Fire.

Trivia[]

  • During the 2008 procession, Andy Williams with The Dancers of CAP21 (who rode on The Santaland Express) were originally in front of the band. But because of the float's breakdown in Times Square which resulted in shifting in Andy's performance before Santa, it also caused confusion during the broadcast because when The West Johnston High School Marching Band entered Herald Square, Meredith Vieira and Al Roker were about to present Andy Williams before being told by someone off set that his performance was delayed. So therefore, Al had to squeeze in the band's entire description right after they performed.
