The West Virginia University Mountaineer Marching Band is the official marching band of West Virginia University, located in Morgantown, West Virginia. Founded in 1901 as an eight-member ROTC band, the modern-day group boasts over 330 members and has performed at several televised Bowl games and Presidential Inaugurations. In 1997, the band was recognized as the country’s outstanding collegiate marching band when it received the Sudler Trophy Award.

History with the Macy's Parade[]

The Mountaineer Marching Band made its first Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade appearance in 2016 as the lead band, performing John Denver's "Country Roads" on route to 34th Street. For its appearance on the NBC broadcast, the band played "Strike Up the Band," officially kicking off the telecast's second hour.

The band will make a second appearance in the 2024 Parade. The announcement was made in September 2023 during halftime at Milan Puskar Stadium, where the Mountaineers were gifted a commemorative drumhead and a $10,000 cheque courtesy of Macy's.
