Yogi Bear is a cartoon character from Hanna-Barbera. Since his debut in 1958, he became the first breakout character from that studio and went on to appear in additional animated television shows, as well as comic books and films. At the height of his popularity, he was even better known than fellow Hanna-Barbera character Huckleberry Hound, who predated him.

History with the Macy's Parade

Yogi debuted in the Macy's Parade as a balloon in 1983. That same year, he appeared on a float called "A Hanna- Barbera Christmas" as a costumed character alongside many other Hanna-Barbera characters, as they cleaned up the streets of Broadway. He made subsequent appearances in 1984 and 1985 when the balloon was retired. As Yogi has faded into obscurity, he has yet to made another Macy's Parade appearance.

Trivia

Yogi Bear was the last of three balloons to be produced by Kemp Balloons Inc. After that, the role of making new balloons was turned over to Raven Industries, which produces them today.
