Almost 2,000 children from ages 8 to 18 participate annually in YPC through its after-school, in-school and community programs.
History with the Macy's Parade[]
The Young People's Chorus of NYC made their Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade debut in the 2010 Parade. The chorale joined singer Ann Hampton Callaway in appearing on the "Winter Wonderland in Central Park" float, furnished by Delta Air Lines. The float recreated a quintessential New York experience with a snow-covered Gothic Bridge and ice skating rink.
Together, Callaway and the Young People's Chorus sang the television premiere of "Yes, Virginia," an original composition by Macy's own Wesley Whatley and William Schermerhorn.
The Young People's Chorus returned to the lineup for the 2018 Macy's Parade, now appearing alongside country singer/songwriter, Martina McBride. Riding aboard Balsam Hill's "Deck the Halls" float, the choristers stood proud on a three-story tall wooden pyramid that featured a carousel at the base, with a three-story-tall Christmas tree rising through the center of the float. Ringing in the Christmas season, the chorale and McBride performed the holiday classic, "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year."
For the 2019 Parade, the Young People's Chorus of NYC once again rode on the "Deck the Halls" float, now joined by Tony award-winner Idina Menzel. The 16-piece choir joined Menzel in singing a rendition of "Sleigh Ride" from her then recently-released album, Christmas: A Season of Love.
The Young People's Chorus of NYC's latest appearance in the lineup was during the 2021 Macy's Parade. The chorale's joined the legendary rock band Foreigner on New York Life's "Toy House of Marvelous Milestones" float and together they sang the classic power ballad, "I Want To Know What Love Is".
